Amwest Technology Company recently achieved unprecedented bulk production of vinyl-POSS, substantially lowered its international market price to a much more affordable level. The vinyl-POSS has a 3-D cubic silsesquioxane core and eight vinyl groups outside the cage structure. Its diagonal dimension measures ~ 1.5 nm, thus is an attractive candidate of nano-structured material when used at molecular level.
For several decades, the synthesis of vinyl-POSS had remained as a technical challenge to the chemical industry due to high cost of production, low isolated yield, and massive by-products.
